He was the first to publish a book on instagram and learned a lot from it

Austin, TX – SXSW 2016

Jason Sperling marketing expert at RPA in Los Angeles was the first to publish an entire book on the social media platform Instagram. His book „Look At Me When I’m Talking to You“ (@lookatmebook) shows impressivly how you can use the social media to publish a book.

The book starts in 2015 and contains 176 animated pages. It was published in smal portions, each day of the week a new pages was put online.

On a speakers slot at the SXSW (south by south west festival ) in Austin, Texas he presented his 10 learnings from this publishing process.

1) Give old things a new fresh.
2) Take your time until you have to hurry up / done is better than perfect – e.g. serial podcast / be the first (!)
3) Constant revision of the content (constant beta beta beta…). Speak of different stage of creation.
4) Be open to opportunities you didn’t see coming. Means: follow the opportunity. (e.g. Vrse,NY Times). / Keep on foot in the past and put one into the future
5) A great idea still needs great marketing (even great things get easily ignored)
6) If you build it, they will come. Once. If they return,  you should give them something in return.
7) There are no barriers between you and your audience. E.g. ok go video.
8) Preheat the oven. And set the timer. You should produce better some sequels at once instead of producing it day by day.
9) You can’t do it alone and that’s ok. Find help doing it and get expertise from others. If you have the idea, it does not mean that you have to do it on your own. Use experts whenever you can.
10) There isn’t  money in marketing books, but there is in marketing jobs. Jason Sperling did not get a lot of money with his instagram book, but he was offered a lot of highly payed jobs since. AND: He could fulfill his dream and speak at the SXSW for the first time in his life.
